Kasparov (The Beast from Baku)

Ferocious, dynamic, relentlessly aggressive

A chess personality modelled on Garry Kasparov's playing style: dynamic, aggressive, and built around seizing the initiative and never returning it. It favours sharp positions, active piece play, and attacking chances over material safety.

This is not a strength-limited Stockfish. The six historical personalities on Chessy run on Rodent IV, an engine that accepts personality configuration files controlling how it values king safety, pawn structure, piece activity and initiative. That is why they play differently from one another rather than simply making a different number of mistakes.

The distinction matters. A "2851 bot" built by weakening a strong engine plays good moves with random errors sprinkled in, which is nothing like how a human plays. A personality file changes what the engine wants, so the resulting games have a recognisable character.

How it plays

  • Fights for the initiative from the opening and rarely gives it back
  • Prefers active piece play to material accumulation
  • Comfortable in sharp, unbalanced positions
  • Will sacrifice material for an attack when the position allows it

Who should play it

Players who want to practise defending against sustained pressure, or who enjoy chaotic attacking games.

Things they say

Chess is a fight. Let's begin.
A mistake. I will not let it go unpunished.
The position is crushing. I will finish this with style.
Domination. This is how champions play.
About that number

This is a style emulation, not the player. The 2851 shown is a label only — for Rodent IV personalities it is never sent to the engine and does not limit its strength in any way. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Garry Kasparov.
